With the passing of the 4 p.m. deadline to file to run for this year’s Roselle Park school board elections, the Union County Clerk’s office notified Roselle Park News that it received only one petition for the 2018 Roselle Park Board Of Education (BOE) election. Susan Ann Carlstrom, the former Director of Guidance and Testing in the school district who retired on June 30th of this year after 35 years in the Roselle Park School District, filed her petition.
In reaching Mrs. Carlstrom, she stated, “I look forward to working on the board for the taxpayers and students of Roselle Park.”
This is the second time this century that there were more seats up for election than there were residents wishing to run for office to the BOE. The last time this happened was in 2010 when two residents ran for three available seats. Every year, three seats out of the nine-member school board became vacant.
None of the current board members up for election – Kevin Cancino, Troy Gerten, and Sundjata Sekou – decided to run and did not file their petitions.
Mrs. Carlstrom is the sister of Joseph Signorello, Jr. who was elected to the BOE in 2016.
BOE elections in New Jersey give seats to the top three vote getters; candidates do not run against each other.
The school board election is on Tuesday, November 6th – the same day as the general election for municipal, county, state, and federal offices.
